The municipality of Taglio di Po owes its name to the great work of river engineering carried out by the Serenissima Republic of Venice at the beginning of the 17th century to preserve the Venetian Lagoon from the burial caused by the enormous alluvial mud that the Po discharged into the Adriatic Sea.
