Sveto (Sutta)

Sveto (Sutta)

Sveto is a rather large town whose main attraction is the church dedicated to Sant’Egidio, one of the main examples of sacred architecture in Slovenia. Dating back to the 16th century, it is known for its unusual shape, as the octagonal ceiling is supported, like an umbrella, by the central column. Noteworthy is the main altar, moved here from Gorizia, which is certainly one of the most beautiful Baroque stone altars in Slovenia.
Next to the church grows the majestic “cinquecentenary” lime tree, under which the inhabitants of the village used to meet and discuss the problems of the community.
